On Saturday afternoon Dartmouth students led by Russian/EEER profs Valentina Apresjan, Tatiana Filimonova and Ainsley Morse enjoyed a beautiful jaunt north along the Connecticut River, with lots of stops to check out the many mushrooms (edible & non-edible) growing along the way. Highlights included myriad clusters of honey mushrooms growing on stumps and roots, prized matsutake mushrooms growing under hemlock trees, and a few wizened lactarius mushrooms spotted late in the game. There was even a mushroom hat! Hats off to the Flora & Fauna members who tagged along and shared some of their woods-wisdom with the less experienced naturalists.
