An op-ed regarding the status of Ukraine's NATO membership by faculty member Victoria Somoff was published in The Guardian on July 27th 2024. Written as an open letter signed by over 150 scholars from western and European universities, it has been viewed and reposted multiple times on social media and translated and commented upon in many Ukrainian publications.
On June 7th, 2024, two members of EEER faculty received promotions. Lynn Patyk was promoted to full professor and Stuart Finkel to associate professor with tenure. The promotions take effect July First. Congratulations to both of you!

The students of Russian 71 (Spring'24) premiered a documentary play "The Crossroad" (Перекресток) written and assembled from interviews with the participants and transcripts from the trial of Alexandra (Sasha) Skochilenko – a 33-year-old Petersburg artist and musician who was imprisoned for her performance activism against Russia's war in Ukraine. The play was written, cast, and designed by the students of Russian 71.

"32-33: Holodomor" is a multi-media installation delving into the emotional and historical context of surviving the Stalin-orchestrated famine of 1932-1933 in Soviet Ukraine. Transposing the testimonials of the survivors into film, photos, and material artifacts, the project unlocks this historical event by immersing the audience in its emotional landscape. Opening reception April 15th 5:30 pm Sudikoff Hall. Exhibition runs April 16-April21st.
